Beiciau Afan Cycles

Afan Outdoor Leisure is a family-owned independent bike shop based in Aberystwyth, Mid-Wales. The company has been trading for nearly 20 years and we are now into our 5th year as a cycle trader. We are situated in a fantastic part of the world for all flavours of cycling including mountain biking, an extensive network of gravel trails and some excellent road riding routes.

We started out selling Forme bikes and this has been an important partnership for us. As our business has grown, the Forme range has matured significantly and their products are as relevant to our customers today as they were when we started trading. We now have a range of other bike brands which we sell alongside Forme including Corratec, Tern, Viking, ICE and our most recent edition Pinarello for those looking for world-beating performance road bikes. Alongside the bikes we have a wide range of parts and accessories on offer together with a selection of seasonal clothing. Our full workshop service rounds off the offering ensuring that everything we sell has been fully checked over and assembled properly whilst also offering all of the warranty and servicing needs which our customers expect.

Our aim is to offer bikes to ordinary people catering for the full breadth of cycling including commuting, family cycling, recreation and sport cycling. We have a sister business selling mobility products and are also experienced in providing adapted cycles including upright and recumbent tricycles both with and without motors. We have also supported the Wheel Together community cycling project with the supply and ongoing maintenance of their wide range of equipment.

At our core we are a team of passionate cyclists and will do our best to encourage and help our customers in their cycling journeys.

Matthew is now our website editor, sales assistant, part-time bike mechanic & partnered with Stuart, manages day to day running of the shop. Being mainly based on the shop floor he will always be on hand for any technical requests, aids in upgrading, and to help guide you towards the perfect bike to suit you.

Stuart Hickman

Stuart brings many years of retail experience to the team and started working with us in 2020. He is the creative mind behind our various window and shop displays together with our pop-up window in Aberystwyth town centre. He deals with most customer enquiries either in-person or over the phone and also tends to get roped into any deliveries that we do.

Stuart is a keen road cyclist and is active in the local cycling club. He is also a massive Pinarello fan and is our expert on the finer points of their design and specification. He is a keen family cyclist riding with his children on the local trails.

Jon Burr

Jon joined Afan Outdoor Leisure over 2 years ago as an experienced bike mechanic and is responsible for building and inspecting our wide range of bikes and e-bikes ready for sale and for carrying out servicing, repairs and diagnostics.

For many years Jon has built, upgraded, repaired and maintained bikes and motorbikes as a hobby and following early retirement from Ceredigion County Council in 2015, decided to indulge his interest and become a bike mechanic.

During these years, there has been much innovation in bike design and componentry, from 5 speed, through to the current 12 speed gearing, carbon frames, full suspension, integrated and electronic shifting, new BB standards, hydraulic disc brakes, etc and Jon has worked on many different makes, models and types of bike, requiring constant updating of skills. Whatever comes into the workshop, chances are he will have worked on it before!

Jon is also a lifelong sportsman; his sporting career began as a marathon kayak racer for Team GB and he has also been a keen club level runner, rower and cyclist. Cycling has endured throughout as a means of transport and fitness, but he has also tried his hand at time trialling and sportives. He says he is now living the dream; talking, working and riding bikes and every day brings a new challenge.
